THIS IS A VERY OLD POST AND IS NO LONGER RELEVANT DUE TO IGG CHANGING THE NPC SYSTEM ENTIRELY. WHEREAS BEFORE NPCs WERE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS OF THE DAY, AND ALWAYS HAD A FAIR CHUNK OF RESOURCES, CURRENTLY THERE ARE ALMOST NO NPCs TO BE FOUND OR THEY HAVE NO MORE RESOURCES.


On Sieges (by Lopus; IGG # 217118316)
 
I've heard many people complaining about lack of resources or of NPC targets in sieges, which may or may not be true (personally I believe that the current tier system is too large to accommodate the number players, specially at the lower tiers). While I'm not 100% certain of this, based on my observation the tiers are based on might.
 
Might 0 to 499 = tier 1 (not that many players stay on this tier)
Might 500 to 999 = tier 2 (many players seem to be stuck on this tier or on the next one)
Might 1000 to 1499 = tier 3 (also another sticking point tier as of this time)
Might 1500 to 1999 = tier 4 (currently sparsely populated, with a huge number of target NPCs)
Might 2000 to 3000 = tier 5 (currently the highest farmed to date, very few players, lot's of NPCs)
 
Now it's really just a matter of rescanning over and over (yes I know that costs gold, but what will you do) to find an NPC with decent resources and more importantly, without any Maletiz fleets (be careful as sometimes Maletiz fleets are off on one side or the other), players cannot always avoid Maletiz fleets as sometimes NPC double-stacks with the Maletiz hiding under another fleet, still it is possible to minimize the losses from facing these fleets. As an aside, also avoiding hitting other players as most have pumped up their defenses and remember as the attacker, YOUR losses are permanent (aside from what can be repaired at the hangers) while the enemies are repaired for free.
 
I have been able to continuously farm NPCs since the game started and have been able to pump myself up to a fairly decent ranking in the game (I think). Due to the costs of shipbuilding, for the lower mights, Magistar 3s are actually a fairly decent ship to use for siege farming as they cost far cheaper than most other ships. Thus the Return on Investment of sieging at least worth it. Use tanks in the front row might also lower the amount of ships you lose during sieges.
 
Once you reach the might 4 and up NPCs, it might be worthwhile putting in 3 or 4 tank/ballistic fleets (I use Dev 10 front and sides with Tia 4 center and rear center) to distract the opponents (Maletiz is obviously the best for this, with Kageion and perhaps Rafia or a sufficiently high * Jerro or Niet-Khuul as these would be easier to obtain (really any high agility commander will do). With a few laser fleets for direct damage and a few missile fleets for long distance attacks (I like using Diaz or Shadow Guardian 4s depending on the commander). Laser fleets should also have Dev tanks in the front row to help lower the losses.

Most of this is still holds true in 3.1.4. Except it appears to be harder to farm NPCs now a days.

And when you beat an NPC they lose trophies, so ALL the NPCs in the 5000+ range are now in the lower ranges, which is why you have Soooo many to farm and the higher players have NONE.  Many in the 5000+ might range have submitted tickets, but no solution from Igg.  In one response i got from Igg,  the person even claimed there were NO NPCs in seige mode and it's only player vs player, that goes to show you how much they know about their own game.

hey lopus
this could be possible but in my opinion that system is shit im trophies about 4000 and all the time getting up i never saw an npc with more als 50k ressources each. when i scan there are always just normal players or npc with low amount of ressources.
so if i attack low npcs i dont get anything for ot i wouldnt be able to rebuild ships. Thats why i dont even use sieges.

At 4K range, NPCs have really terrible resources, at 5K range the resources to the toughness of the NPCs is pretty evenly balanced, here at the 6K range, on the few occasions that I have found NPCs, the resource drops average at about 750K per resource ... take note, that is after an NPC maintenance, about a day later, this is about 400K per resource, and another day after, there are no more NPCs

Now one imagines there are more and more players in the field 5k+. More and more search the NPC are always less rapidly becoming NPC opposite. This system of IGG can never work in the long run.

What IGG's programmers/developers/coders (should we be using plural in this ... or perhaps it is just one poor guy doing all the work) should do is put a random refresher on all the NPCs so that the times they appear is random and their resources are also random.

I was working on a sort of guide for the Raiding but it seem someone beat me to it. That's cool :).

Since a week I am able to build Custom Helena/Nicholas ships with all kinds of fancy modules. With 22 fleets of these I managed to do... how shall I put this... a little research.
With my new shippies I began working my way up the ranks. First I had a might ranking of ~2.200, at the end 2.594 (see bottom of screenshot). After I plowed my way thru the ranks I reached a new tier at 2.500. All of the sudden there were tons of NPCs (see screenshot). I ran out of raid attempts so I couldn't continue. You can find my ranking-overview here.  Notice the sudden ammount of NPCs at the end - that's when I passed the 2.500 might ranking.

For me this is proof enough that there are different tiers in PvP. Once you reached a specific level, you will only encounter players and NPCs with a certain might rating. So for now(!!!) if people ask me how to get to NPCs, I'll tell them to get their might rank up. HOW people have to get their rank up is a different problem.

You need resources to get ships. But you need good ships to get higher might to get more NPC resources. Do whatever you have to do to get the resources. Then design good ships (I made a guide on this very recently at the wiki).

Well... IGG have posted a link to this, proving they have read the forum and ignored the request of an NPC reset... as they havnt done it today it will be at least monday before they do... another complete weekend with no resources at all.... in a game where the weekend is when most play...

I give up.... there is obviously no point telling IGG anymore whats needed, bet they jumped on this post because it mentioned " a huge number of NPCs"

(taking nothing from your post Lupas, its good for mid rank players)
